Desert rose is the name given to rosette formations of crystal clusters of gypsum or baryte which contain an abundance of included sand grains. The rosette crystal habit tends to occur when the crystals form in arid sandy conditions. Gypsum roses usually have better defined, sharper edges than baryte roses. Celestine and other bladed evaporite minerals may also form rosette clusters.

The only thing that would make this more anime would be if Selphie were running with toast in her mouth.

I realise this is now hours past the fact but I got distracted half-way through drawing.

Final Fantasy VI Original Sound Version

Let me just break all your hearts by posting this on Locke’s birthday instead of his theme in its original form.

Dalmasca Estersand - Distant Worlds: THE CELEBRATION

Well this person’s camera died at 2:30so it uh, stops very abruptly, but it caught surprisingly good sound quality so this is for you, fellow Ivalicians!

The Opera, Maria and Draco - Extended Version from Distant Worlds: THE CELEBRATION, London 2012

DISTANT WORLDS STUFF

ok I can’t scroll back any further this laptop is seriously chugging so here we go, here’s what happened yesterday ok

I went to Distant Worlds: THE CELEBRATION yesterday and miraculously didn’t cry once - I think I was too stunned that it was actually happening and the whole experience feels like a dream. I did well up a bit a few times but no actual tears. I also got a headache about halfway through maybe from concentrating too hard?

Anyway so I have a handful of followers who might be interested in my thoughts on some of the new things they performed though I warn you I’m really terrible at describing things.

So they started with the Prelude, then the I-III Medley, and then continued playing one song from each game in chronological order.

Battle with the Four Fiends was incredible! FF4 is pretty far down my favourites list but I do love its music and this was the first of many times it felt like the entire hall was shaking. Speaking of which the Royal Albert Hall is really huge and gorgeous and super classy and 90% of attendees were wearing jeans and tshirts what the hell guys this is like the fanciest venue in the country wear something smart omg and also I could see the box where Uematsu, Sakaguchi, Hamauzu and the Squeenix employees were sat, as well as the entire stage really well from my seat so for only £40 I think I did really really well.

Main Theme of Final Fantasy V was next and I just
grinned all the way through
even when they were showing the sad scenes I couldn’t stop because FF5 is so fun and endearing and auugghhh

Phantom Forest was next and while I think it was an unusual choice (seems like everybody really just wanted to hear Terra’s Theme or Dancing Mad) it was really beautiful and surely Sabin supplexing a speeding train is one of everyone’s favourite FF6 moments right? Right? It was really nice to hear something different for a change anyway, all of FF6’s soundtrack is fantastic.

Then… for FF7 they went for the most boring and obvious choice ever with One Winged Angel and everyone cheered like crazy and we were all asked to sing along so of course I obliged but surely I am not the only person who is well and truly sick of OWA by now right?
I mean as per usual it was impressive and the hall shook again and yeah great wonderful but come onnn FF7 has such such such an awesome soundtrack and literally every single track makes me want to sit down and play through it again for the billionth time but every single time they only ever play OWA, Opening~Bombing Mission, or Aerith’s Theme. At least if they’d played Aerith I might have actually buckled and cried but aaaaaaa whatever I don’t want to complain too much.

Don’t Be Afraid was next yaaayyy the hall shook AGAIN and I was all smiles and foot-tapping and they started it off with the scene in Dollet with the dog barking and I love that stupid dog so yep great wonderful helped me forget my disappointment in them picking OWA again. At this point I also noticed that the entire percussion section were all little old men and that made me grin for some silly reason?

You’re Not Alone felt kind of subdued after that especially considering the onscreen footage but it’s one of my favourite tracks from FF9 and it was beautiful and was followed immediately by

To Zanarkand! This is one of the really really obvious choices that I actually don’t care how many times I hear it it’s essentially perfect, I think I often forget just how much I love FFX and especially Yuna but this was the first time my eyes watered too, aaaaa

Vana’diel March came next and I was hit with a torrent of memories of actually attempting to play FF11, mostly how long it would take to log in or load the next area, hanging around the Tarutaru town, and getting ditched on my own while underlevelled in the desert area and not being able to get back to town… then I looked at the flyer that everybody got with a QR code for the beta for FF14 (we’re-sorry-we-made-it-really-badly-first-time-here’s-an-impossibly-attractive-man-and-we-kinda-fixed-everything-maybe?) A Realm Reborn and was very tempted but unfortunately I’d turned my phone off to save power so I missed the opportunity to register OH WELL MOVING ON

AND THEN FINALLY IT WAS TIME FOR ONE OF THE THINGS I WAS MOST EXCITED FOR HOLY SHIT

DALMASCA ESTERSAND
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Lots of gorgeous Balthier on the screen and gosh I just
it felt like I was practically there
it was about damn time they performed something from 12 and by the GODS did they do a good job of it holllyy shiiiitttt 10 out of 10 would recommend to every Ivalician wow woah

Directly after that it was time for Blinded By Light and while I think everybody knows I am not 13’s biggest fan I do really really love this track I mean…. it’s ear-candy and the visuals are eye-candy and you know, that is why I was so excited and so so convinced that FF13 was going to be the best game ever and then gosh the gameplay just outright sucked the life out of me and made it impossible for me to enjoy the rest of the game… but I’ll always enjoy this song, it reminds me of the days of leaving the official website playing it on loop in the background before my hopes were shattered and that’s a good thing, I like to remember the good times.

The last song before the intermission was Answers, the theme song to FF14 We Messed Up But We Fixed It Now Guys, sung by Susan Calloway and wow
I mean I knew she had a great voice, her Distant Worlds is probably my favourite thing ever (very sad it wasn’t performed btw),and I’m sure anyone who has been to one of these concerts before knows this, but fucking hell this woman has some pipes…
Like her voice is a billion times better in person than on CD, to the point where I felt really really REALLY shitty about my own voice and mentally told myself “Never even pretend you can sing ever ever again you are so crap compared to this go bury yourself head first loser”
Also you know that awkward moment when someone hasn’t actually finished singing and the crowd cheers for like a decade before the song can end?
Yeah that happened, whoops.

Then it was intermission time and idk it was breif and I had to stand up and let people past a lot which was only annoying because I was sat in this big poofy lolita dress with a coat on my lap and my bag at my feet and that’s a lot to rearrange when you sit back down so having to do it like a dozen times in 20 minutes is uhhh anyway moving on

I think I might have mixed up the order a little of everything after the intermission but deal with it because I’m still not entirely sure I was actually there myself.

Theme of Love doesn’t need describing everyone knows it’s painfully beautiful ok

Eyes On Me was sung by Crystal Kay, who is pretty great. If you don’t know her but you know your anime she did one of the ending themes to the original FullMetal Alchemist series called Motherland which you should listen to also because I love it.
It was a really gorgeous version and my eyes welled up again, Angela Aki’s is still my favourite but this is a realllllly close second, CK’s voice has that soulful touch to it and it was extremely enjoyable.

Carrying on hoping I haven’t forgotten anything, next was something I totally called about 2 weeks ago! The new, special Chocobo Medley! It started with what I can only assume is FF14’s chocobo theme with lots of footage of like, how you can raise a baby chocobo or something? Extremely cute stuff, before going into Mambo de Chocobo! Yaay! Swing is all fine and dandy but Mambo is where it’s at yo - it was also pretty hilarious ‘cause every time it hit the ‘HUH!’ there would be that clip of Sazh’s chocobo jumpin out of his ‘fro and wow that is funnier when you’re there than it is in words I guess? Then it changed to another chocobo theme I didn’t recognise with chants and stuff and it was pretty jazzy and I liked it a lot. I would’ve liked maybe a little Ukelele de Chocobo thrown in there somewhere but gosh I’m just so happy Mambo was in it that it’s negligible.

Then omg it happened
The Opera ~ Extended Version
So especially for the 25th anniversary, Uematsu went and WROTE A WHOLE NEW SEGMENT to go in the middle of the Opera as well as adding a Narrator, making it pretty much TWICE AS LONG.
The new part covers the actual duel between Draco and Ralse and wow it is intense, I can’t really describe it but if you are a fan of The Opera you absolutely have to hear this version, your further enjoyment of life pretty much depends on it. This was the one that came closest to actually making me cry

Finally it was time for a NEW Battle Medley! Hurrah!
And gosh they picked 3 of my top top top battle themes I am so happy, I mean they started off with Clash on the Big Bridge so you know this is going to be good from the very beginning! After that it was Battle With Seymour which was as funky as ever, finally turning into Fighting and wow okay by this point I am all smiles that could have only gone better by turning into like, Dark Messenger or Grand Cross or Premonition or Force Your Way or… yeah okay there are just too many good battle themes, and then it finished with a good old Fanfare OF COURSE.

BUT ACTUALLY IT WASN’T THE END WOAH WE SURE GOT FOOLED

After a lot of bowing and applause Mr Roth comes back out for the encore and they play the Theme of Final Fantasy and again I nearly cry because the credits are rolling and I actually sobbed just a little when it thanked the fans because hey that’s me, only been one of those for like 15 years of my life which itself is a year shorter than the age of the franchise can I just go cry about how big an influence these games have been on every single aspect of my life because
